27/05/2004 : Quality and efficiency in education : A workshop organised by the Directorate General for Economic and Financial Affairs


The workshop aims were to

  • provide a forum for recent economic research in this area and
  • to draw out key lessons for human capital policy, with implications for economic growth, employment and the quality of public finances.
  • Areas covered include basic education as well as post-compulsory and adult education and training.

Nicholas Barr (London School of Economics), Andrea Bassanini (OECD), Pedro Carneiro (University College London), Eric Hanushek (Stanford), Alexander Kemnitz (University of Mannheim), Jan Koucký (Charles University Prague and Czech Ministry of Education), Edwin Leuven (University of Amsterdam), Lars Nesheim (Institute for Fiscal Studies), François Orivel (IREDU, University of Bourgogne), Margaret Raymond (Stanford) and Albert Tuijnman (European Investment Bank).
