Description: The central image of the coin shows, with lined pattern, the portrait of the Queen Barbara of Celje with her sceptre. On the image are placed three typical six-pointed stars of Celje counts. On the left side of the portrait is the inscription “SLOVENIJA” and on the right side the inscription “BARBARA CELJSKA” and the years “1414 – 2014”. The coin’s outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European flag.

The Euro-sign in the centre of the coin shows that the Euro has become an element of particular importance in Europe as well all over the world as the Euro evolved to a global player in the international monetary system in the last 10 years. The design elements around the Euro-symbol on the coin express the importance of the Euro to the people, to the financial world (ECB tower), to trading (ships), to industry (factories), to the energy sector and research and development (wind power stations). The initials AH of the artist appear under the image of the ECB tower. The name(s) of the issuing country in the national language(s) appear(s) at the top, while the indication 2002-2012 appears at the bottom.

The 100th anniversary of the birth of the national hero Franc Rozman-Stane

The design shows the effigy of Franc Rozman-Stane (1911 – 1944), a leading partisan and national hero of the national liberation struggle. The coin depicts on the left hand of its inner part his effigy with a star, his name, years of his birth and death, and "Slovenia 2011". The coin’s outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European flag.

Ljubljana's Botanical Garden

The coin commemorates the 200th anniversary of the creation of the Botanical Garden in Ljubljana, the oldest scientific and cultural institution in Slovenia. The inner part of the coin depicts the ‘hladnikia’ (Hladnikia pastinacifolia), a rare plant endemic to Slovenia which is named after Franc Hladnik, its discoverer and the founder of Ljubljana's Botanical Garden (date of issue: May 2010).

Ten years of economic and monetary union (EMU) and the birth of the euro

The centre of the coin shows a stylised human figure whose left arm is prolonged by the euro symbol. The initials ΓΣ of the artist appear below the euro symbol. The name(s) of the issuing country in the national language(s) appear(s) at the top, while the indication 1999-2009 and the acronym EMU translated into the national language(s) appear at the bottom.

500th anniversary of the birth of Primož Trubar

The coin features an effigy of Primož Trubar (1508-1586), the Slovenian protestant reformer who was the founder of the Protestant Church of the Slovene Lands and the author of the first printed book in the Slovene language. Primož Trubar also features on the national side of the Slovenian 1-euro coin.

50th anniversary of signing of the Treaty of Rome

The coin shows the treaty with the signatures of the six founding countries on a background evoking the paving – designed by Michelangelo – of the Piazza del Campidoglio in Rome, where the Treaty was signed on 25 March 1957, giving birth to the modern-day European Union.
