100th anniversary of the International Women's Day

Belgium

The coin commemorates the 100th anniversary of International Women's Day, which is celebrated on 8 March as a major day of global celebration of women. The inner part of the coin depicts the effigies of Isala Van Diest, the first female Belgian medical doctor, and of Marie Popelin, the first female Belgian lawyer. Their names and professional symbols are shown underneath on either side of the year 2011. Above their effigies, the Mint master mark and the mintmark are shown on either side of the reference to their nationality "BE". The coin’s outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European Union flag.

Nordrhein-Westfalen

Germany

The inner part of the coin depicts the Cologne Cathedral (Kölner Dom) with the inscription "Nordrhein-Westfalen" underneath as reference to the German federal state (Bundesland). The coin’s outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European Union flag combined with the year 2011 at the bottom of the ring.

The organization of World Games SPECIAL OLYMPICS – ATHENS 2011

Greece

The center of the coin shows the emblem of the Games, a radiant sun the source of life that underlines the excellence and power of the athlete that takes part in the Games. Excellence is depicted in the olive branch and power in the spiral form in the center of the sun. Around the image is written the sign XIII SPECIAL OLYMPICS W.S.G. ATHENS 2011 as well as the issuing country ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΔΗΜΟΚΡΑΤΙΑ. The mintmark is also depicted in between.

UNESCO World Natural and Cultural Heritage Sites - Patio de los Leones of the Alhambra, Generalife and Albayzín in Granada

Spain

The design shows the lion yard of the Alhambra, the fortified castle in the city of Granada, which in 1984 was declared UNESCO World Heritage.

The 30th anniversary of the Music Day (Fête de la musique)

France

The design commemorates the 30th anniversary of the French "Fête de la musique" (Music Day), which first took place in France in 1982 and has since spread to many other countries. The purpose of this all-night music celebration on the summer solstice is to promote music for amateur and professional musicians with free concerts open to the public. The centre of the coin shows a group of singers and musicians with the inscription referring to the 30th anniversary and the event of 21 June 2011 above them. The acronym RF features at the bottom right side.

The 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy

Italy

The inner part of the coin shows, at the centre, three Italian flags in the wind, representing the three past 50th anniversaries - 1911, 1961 and 2011 – which illustrate a perfect link between generations: this is the logo of the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy.

Luxembourg

The coin depicts on the right hand of its inner part the effigy of His Royal Highness, the Grand-Duke Henri, looking to the left, and superimposed on the effigies of the Grand-Duke Jean and the Grand-Duchess Charlotte. The name of the issuing country LËTZEBUERG (Luxembourg) is depicted above the three effigies. The year-date ‘2011’, flanked by the mintmark and the Mintmaster mark, appears above. The name of the Royal Highness is depicted below the respective effigy. The coin’s outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European flag.

Constitutional history. First elected representatives of 1849

Malta

This coin is the first of a series of five coins to be issued over a period of five years to commemorate major milestones in Malta's constitutional history. This first coin commemorates the election in 1849 of the first Maltese representatives to the Council of Government advising the British Governor. Malta had been a British colony since the 1814 Treaty of Paris. The centre of the coin shows a hand putting a vote into a ballot box. The words "Malta – First elected representatives 1849" are shown above.

The 500th anniversary of the issue of the world famous book ‘Laus Stultitiae’ by the Dutch philosopher, humanist and theologian Desiderus Erasmus

The Netherlands

The inner part of the coin depicts Erasmus writing his book and the effigy of Queen Beatrix. Between these two images, the inscription ‘Beatrix Koningin der Nederlanden’ vertically positioned, the year ‘2011’, the Mint master mark and the mintmark.

500th anniversary of Fernão Mendes Pinto's birth

Portugal

The coin commemorates the 500th anniversary of the birth of Fernão Mendes Pinto, the Portuguese explorer of the Asian seas and countries. "Peregrinação" (Pilgrimage), his book on discoveries and adventures was published posthumously. The inner part of the coin depicts a sailing ship on several wave shaped inscriptions referring to Portugal, Lisbon, his book and some of his travel destinations. The inscriptions "Portugal" appears underneath. His name combined with the years 1511 and 2011 appear on top of the inner part. The coin’s outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European Union flag.

The 100th anniversary of the birth of the national hero Franc Rozman-Stane

Slovenia

The design shows the effigy of Franc Rozman-Stane (1911 – 1944), a leading partisan and national hero of the national liberation struggle. The coin depicts on the left hand of its inner part his effigy with a star, his name, years of his birth and death, and "Slovenia 2011". The coin’s outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European flag.

The 20th anniversary of the formation of the Visegrad Group

Slovakia

The coin commemorates the 20th anniversary of the formation of the Visegrad Group. The Group is also known as the "Visegrád Four" or "V4" and is composed of the four Central European states – the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia. Set up following a summit meeting of the Heads of state or government of Czechoslovakia, Hungary and Poland held in the Hungarian castle town of Visegrád on 15 February 1991, its main purpose is to cooperate in areas of common interest within the process of European integration.

The 200th anniversary of the Bank of Finland

Finland

The design celebrates the 200th anniversary of Bank of Finland, and it has been adopted from the golden collector coin “Bank of Finland 200 years”, which was published in May 2011. The designer of the coin is Hannu Veijalainen.

Description: The inner part of the coin shows, at the center, the effigies of Prince Albert and Charlene. At the bottom, the name of the issuing country "MONACO" and the year of issuance "2011". The mint mark and the mint engravers mark appear before and after "MONACO 2011", respectively.
The coin’s outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European Union flag.

San Marino

Vasari (30 July 1511 – 27 June 1574) was an painter, writer, and architect, famous for his biographies of Italian artists, and he is now considered the ideological founder of art-historical writing.

The central part of the coin shows a detail of the painting by Giorgio Vasari "Giuditta decapita Oloferne" (Giuditta decapitates Oloferne). On the bottom, the dates "1511-2011", on the left "G. Vasari" and the mintmark "R", on the right the name of the issuing country "San Marino" and the initials of the author Claudia Momoni "CM ". The coin’s outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European Union flag.

Vatican City

The inner part of the coin shows, at the centre, some young people and flags, and also the mintmark "R" and the year "2011". At the top, along the outer limit of the inner ring, from left to right, "XXVI" and "G.M.G" from Giornata Mondiale della Gioventù (World Youth Day). At the bottom, the name of the issuing country "CITTA' DEL VATICANO".

The coin’s outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European Union flag.
