Structural indicators database for the EU

A partial view of the keyboard and screen of a laptop computer

Structural indicators are a tool to monitor and assess the impact of the Lisbon reform strategy across the EU and in the individual Member States.

The renewed Lisbon Strategy seeks to spur growth and job creation inside the EU through economic reforms. The European Commission assesses the success of the strategy by identifying national challenges and seeing how effectively Member States' reform programmes address those challenges.

Establishing the effectiveness of national reform programmes depends on statistical support to monitor and assess their progress and impact. An important role in this statistical support is played by the structural indicators database. It is a pool of high-quality indicators drawing on all available relevant information sources and covering all dimensions of the Lisbon Strategy:

  • general economic background
  • employment
  • innovation and research
  • economic reform
  • social cohesion
  • the environment

The database also includes a shortlist of headline indicators.
