Professor, University of California Berkeley.
John Zysman is a professor of Political Science at the University of California Berkeley and co-founder and co-director of the Berkeley Roundtable on the International Economy (BRIE).
Zysman’s recent work focuses on Energy Systems Transformation which underlies discussions of green technology. This builds on his work on how the ICT enables transformation of the Service Sector, an algorithmic revolution. Zysman's 1987 publication, Manufacturing Matters: The Myth of the Post-Industrial Economy (with Stephen Cohen), was identified by "Business Week" as one of the year's top ten books. Since then, Zysman has significantly redefined the understanding of how different sectors interact in the global division of labour, and how technology dynamics and political economy link. This work made him a key advisor and frequent speaker to governments and corporations in Europe, Asia and the US on how to deal with globalisation and how to enhance competitiveness.
