This issue highlights EMU@10, the project launched to mark the tenth anniversaries of the decision to move to the third and final stage of Economic and Monetary Union and the introduction of the euro.
We are happy to announce the publication of the first issue of the second volume of the European Economy Research Newsletter (EERL) by the Directorate General for Economic and Financial Affairs (DG ECFIN). The EERL disseminates information on ongoing and future research projects and research-oriented publications undertaken or sponsored by DG ECFIN.
This issue focuses on EMU@10, the project launched to mark the tenth anniversaries of the decision to move to the third and final stage of Economic and Monetary Union and the introduction of the euro. Particular attention is given to the research workshop EMU@10 – achievements and challenges, which was organised by DG ECFIN on 26-27 November 2007. The Research Letter reports on papers presented at this workshop. In an interview, professor Niels Thygesen, who took part in the workshop, talks about the preparation of EMU, the achievements of the euro and the way ahead.
An article on the EU Economy 2007 Review: a trade-off between employment and productivity? provides an in-depth analysis of productivity developments and policies designed to move Europe's productivity frontier forward. The regular methodological note is devoted in the current issue to the Harmonised EU Business and Consumer Surveys.
For the first time, the EERL's publication list provides information on the Macro-Fiscal Assessments that are published for all countries in the context of the assessment of stability and convergence programmes on DG ECFIN's website.
