Within the European Neighbourhood Policy Framework (ENP), CPM is cooperating with third countries in prevention, preparedness and response to natural and man-made disasters.
With the Eastern Partnership programme, the cooperation with Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine aims to prevent, prepare for and respond to disasters affecting the EaP partner countries and the EU, in view of the joint commitment to greater cooperation on disaster management. The co-operation will also contribute to social and political stability in the region and support countries' efforts to adapt to climate change.
Civil protection is a key area of cooperation under the Union for the Mediterranean. The programme "Prevention, Preparedness and Response to Natural and Man-made Disasters" (PPRD) aims to bring the Mediterranean Partner Countries progressively closer to the European Civil Protection Mechanism. Funded by the European Commission, PPRD South started in March 2009 and will run until 2012.
The Programme's beneficiary countries are Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Syria, the Palestinian Authority, Tunisia, Turkey, Israel, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Montenegro. Mauritania and Libya participate as observers. For more information, see www.euromedcp.eu.
