07/05/2013 - Lebanon, which borders with Syria’s southwest, is a common destination for Syrians fleeing the bloodshed in their country. Over 445 000 Syrians are registered, or awaiting registration, as refugees. For the most part they live in rented accommodation in poor parts of Lebanon’s towns and cities and struggle to find work to pay the bills. Food vouchers, worth US$27 per person per month, help families get through the transition and also inject money into Lebanon’s economy. Funded in part by ECHO, the vouchers are distributed by World Food Programme and its partners.
