The European Commission Humanitarian Aid department has been running a competition called ‘Relief Reporters 09’. It is a contest destined for young people, aged between 12 and 21. It aims to encourage young participants to investigate the impact of natural disasters and conflicts on people across the world, and produce a news report on the role of the European Commission and its partners in distributing humanitarian aid to people in crisis.
To help make recording facilities more accessible to young people, the Commission took its competition ‘on the road’.
Our Relief Reporters trailer travelled throughout Northern Ireland over the Summer. It visited the Castlewellan and District Agricultural Show, the Clogher Valley Show in Auger, the West Belfast Festival, and the Fermanagh County Show in Enniskillen, the Belfast Maritime Festival, The Irish Walled Towns Day, and the Belfast Mela. Thanks to the experienced guidance of the two accompanying journalists, Austin Hunter and Adrian Logan, the calibre of the candidates has proved to be very high and the competition will be fierce!
The prize-winners will be announced on 26th September during a ceremony at the Ulster TV studios in Belfast.
