Food insecurity, conflicts and instability make the Sahel one of the worst regions in the world to be a child. An estimated 461 250 children under 5 years of age die in the Sahel each year due to severe child undernutrition. On top of crucial funding to cover on average 40% of the annual nutrition care needs in the region, EU Humanitarian Aid supports innovations that can result in children being diagnosed and treated earlier, thereby greatly increasing their chances of survival.

Follow Dahara and her malnourished twins in Niger to see how a simple coloured band is helping thousands of mothers across the Sahel identify early signs of severe malnutrition in their children.
