This year marks 50 years of Israeli occupation of the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip. As the low-intensity conflict between Palestinians and Israelis continues, an estimated two million people—out of a total population of 4.8 million in the Palestinian territories—are in need of humanitarian assistance. In the West Bank, Palestinians suffer from a range of problems, including the seizure of their land, settler violence and restrictions of movement. To support Palestinians in the West Bank, EU Humanitarian Aid provides a range of services to Palestinians, including the building of schools and shelters, legal aid and psychosocial support.
