India: Building resilience against floods

During monsoons, India regularly experiences floods that destroy houses and inundate vast stretches of agricultural land. Year after year people in rural areas suffer severe losses, which eventually wears down their capacity to recover from these shocks. But the disaster-resilient houses that the European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection department (ECHO) is funding in some of the most flood-prone regions of India are helping vulnerable families withstand these recurrent blows.
