This two-day event brought together 600 participants working in the area of civil protection for an exchange of information and experience, and provides a platform for issues linked to natural and man-made disasters. The initiative is part of the Commission's contribution to strengthen EU co-operation on Civil Protection. Highlights of the programme include plenary sessions and workshops on new threats, and risks resulting from climate change.

This detailed news report looks at the global support mechanisms put in place by the European Union to respond to man-made and natural disasters.
