There is an existing Protocol for cooperation for Search and Rescue (SAR) in the Alps along the common border between Slovenia and Venice (IT) for Mountain Rescue since 2006 and this project will enhance cross border cooperation, as it aims to improve tracking, localisation and provision of pictures via 2-D and 3D maps to rescue teams via a tool set. An international cooperative exercise with Italy and Slovenian SAR teams will test the web based tool and procedures.

Aims at increasing the skills and awareness of the fire fighter teams in the cross border area of Trieste (IT) and Koper (SI) for joint interventions and rapid deployment in case of fire emergencies in woods, ships or industrial sites. The project will focus on overcoming technical and communication obstacles such as losing radio signals during interventions or language barriers via extensive training.

Aims at raising public awareness, dissemination of good practices and intergovernmental coordination pursued through support to the Tsunami Information Centre for the NE Atlantic and the Mediterranean at the UNESCO's Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission. In particular, the project will raise awareness among civil protection authorities on good practices in tsunami preparedness and other sea-level related risks and knowledgeable of safe behaviour, updating in parallel the Register of Tsunami National Contacts and Tsunami Warning Focal Points.

Civil protection forces deployed in disaster response operations under CBRN conditions are exposed to additional risks and pressures that may constitute a heavy psychological strain. This project will develop and test a training programme for operational forces (including volunteers) that have to cope with CBRN incidents, with the aim to enhance competences in psychosocial support and to contribute to optimized procedures during crisis response.

During the winter season civil protection is often called to play an active role in relation to risks and factors of unpredictability in mountain areas, regarding avalanches, land slides and flooding, which constitute significant risks for persons, material and the environment.
The project aims to build up Integrated Disaster Management Systems (IDMS) in the civil protection organisations connected to each of the beneficiaries, to establish local and transnational networks and to carry out training course module for civil protection volunteers.

Aims at developing criteria and guidelines for assessing the risk and damage of catastrophic floods and it will offer opportunities to reduce the risk of floods due to dysfunctions of potentially dangerous facilities.
The project will perform surveys and on site visits to selected areas to create a database of geographical information.
Moreover the project will develop a Manual for small dams with a methodology which will assist project partners to implement activities and responsibilities of Member States for the assessment and management of flood risks.

This project is a policy-directed assessment exercise, to assist the relevant authorities to better appreciate the risks posed by droughts and floods by collecting the data about past disasters, filling the knowledge gaps – in particular the indirect and intangible economic and social losses – and by improving risk assessment methods and approaches in place in the participating countries.
The data collection will be performed in selected river basins of the 4 participating countries to create a catalogue of hydro-meteorological disasters of droughts and floods.
