Calls under the preparatory action on an EU rapid response capability

On 26 March 2010, Directorate-General ECHO of the European Commission, Civil Protection Unit – Disaster response will hold an Information Day in Brussels (Belgium) on "How to prepare a proposal", in response to calls to be issued under the preparatory action on an EU rapid response capability. (1)
Aim
A call for proposals is expected to be published in April 2010 and will be open to the participation of any legal person (public or private) established in an EU Member State, capable of contributing to the response to major disasters in the context of interventions of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. EEA States (Norway, Iceland and Lichtenstein), the EU candidate countries and third countries may participate in the proposed preparatory action only at their own cost.
The call will aim at testing and implementing various arrangements that enhance the availability of resources for European civil protection operations launched in the framework of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. Actions may cover any kind of major disaster, including notably forest fires.
In order to ensure that the proposals comply with appropriate quality standards and to increase their chances for success, the Commission aims to inform potential proponents on the formal and substantial (legal, financial, technical, etc.) requirements and criteria applicable to the call. The aim of the Information Day is to provide this knowledge.

The Information Day is aimed at stakeholders in the field of civil protection (including national administrations, private sector and non governmental organisations).
