Drug prevention and information

As regards the Drug prevention and information programme, the Commission plans to grant around 2.2 M€ during year 2011. The programme builds on the EU’s Drugs Strategy and Action plans to reduce the social harm and health damage caused by the use of, and trade in, illicit drugs. The general objectives of this programme are:

  • to prevent and reduce drug use, dependence and drug related harms;
  • to contribute to the improvement of information on the effects of drug use;
  • to support the implementation of the EU Drugs Strategy.

Activities to combat drug use can draw on the expertise of the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) in Lisbon. The EMCDDA is the decentralised Agency of the DG Justice and provides the EU and its Member States with objective, reliable and comparable information on drugs and drug addiction. To consult:
