The ‘proactive knowledge for smart products’ – SmartProducts – project is helping people to make better use of modern products.
Smart products are physical products that help their users – customers, mechanics, assembly workers, and service technicians – to deal with the ever-increasing complexity and variety of modern products. They are able to ‘talk to’, ‘guide’ and ‘assist’ their users to assemble, use, service, and recycle them. This exhibit presents the SmartProducts project which is developing the S&T basis for building smart products with embedded proactive knowledge. Some knowledge is built-in while the rest is gathered during the product life cycle using embedded sensing and communication capabilities. To exemplify smart products, there are two tangible demonstrators, a cooking guide in a family kitchen environment, and a smart assembly tool in an industrial production environment.
