Future User-Centric Media Networks

T 013, 28/09/2010 (14:00-15:30)

Network technologies to support ever-evolving media applications and the delivery of challenging content come up for discussion.

The focus is on architectures, techniques and platforms for the support, by future networks, of advanced user-centric media applications and the seamless delivery of content, including text, images, audio-visual streams and 3D media, virtual and augmented worlds and games. Network problems posed by distributed, interactive media applications will be examined, along with potential solutions. Topics covered will include research challenges in media networking, and architectures to support highly demanding media applications. An interactive panel session will discuss the pros and cons of evolutionary versus disruptive network solutions and the relationship between innovative business models and new architectures and standards.

Broadcasting media internet: A strategy for the exploitation of the interleaved spectrum serving user centric approach.

Comm 2007/700 presents the European strategy concerning UHF spectrum. However several inaccuracies and errors are contained in it like (page 3): the locally unused spectrum (interleaved) is introduced as a “new product” due to DSO, even more as “important” complement to the digital dividend, or it is considered as identical to the term “white space spectrum” introduced recently in USA by the White Space Coalition

• The interleaved spectrum (channels) is the result, of any National Coverage Implementation and not a result of the DSO neither “important” complement to the spectrum dividend. It is the opposite

• The term “white space spectrum” is not identical to the European term “Interleaved TV channels” neither the European DSO is (not at all) identical to the American DSO

Our approach targeting to new innovative infrastructures in UHF avoids the irreversible loss of such an important spectrum that will result if full duplex cognitive devices will be adopted

We plan to attend since we are looking for partners in future netwroks and dvanced user centric media applications

Ioannis PITAS, 23/09/2010 18:22

We are interested in human-centered audiovisual content description that can be used both for identifying/monitoring user perferences and for choosing the proper content for delivery.

Michael SCHEMBRI, 24/09/2010 09:35

we would like to know more about your project proposals since we are looking for partners

Jerry FOSS, 25/09/2010 12:10

I'm keen to meet potential partners for a proposal in Personalised Interactive TV; the personalisation of video playout according to end user profiles. (i.e. broadcast <> niche-cast).

Project to include

(i) Video processing and distribution platform;

(ii) Agent-based commercial trading platform for commercial personalised media services.

We currently have the nucleus of a project team, and looking for additional interested partners.

If anybody is inetested, please contact me on , and see my profile for information and links to proposal briefs, at -

I will attend this session.

I am interested in research topics related to functions, algorithms for the efficient 2D/3D video transmission across heterogeneous wireless networks

Peter VOJTAS, 26/09/2010 20:31

We have a system learning user preferences from his/her explicit rating, maybe can work together?
