Policies on Data

This policy idea has been generated in the July 9 Onlife workshop . Beth Coleman reports:

Main points for articulating future policies:

  • Paradigm Shift in Law. e.g. crime protection/privacy
  • Need to align data use and data protection
  • Informed and meaningful consent
  • Awareness on data creation and provenance
  • Competition law and dominant platform providers?
  • Data Linkage
  • Empowerment through the democratisation of data mining and visual analytics, enabling data tracing by anyone entitled to do so
  • Data as money (paying with yoru own data). People need to be aware of them paying with their data.

This policy idea probably requires structure, i.e. will unfold in more than just one action.
