Athena BOURKA registered to attend the Onlife Manifesto: Being human in a hyperconnected era Event
Athena Bourka studied electrical and computer engineering in the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and in 2002 she obtained a PhD in information security from the same institution. For the period 1996-2003 she worked in the domain of environmental information systems, as a consultant in relevant European projects, as well as scientific personnel of the Ministry of the Environment of Greece. In 1999 – 2002 she also worked in a number of research programs of NTUA for the security of information systems and networks. Since January 2004 she has been employed in the Auditors Department of the Hellenic Data Protection Authority (HDPA) in the area of privacy and security of information systems and new technologies. During this period she has been seconded twice as a National Expert to the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS). Since September 2009 she has been appointed as sector co-ordinator for the IT privacy and security Office of the HDPA. She holds 16 publications in scientific journals and conferences and she is a member of the Technical Chamber of Greece and the Scientific Council for the Information Society of Greece.
