Benchmarking multimedia retrieval applications

T 009, 28/09/2010 (9:00-10:30)

Multimedia search technology is currently the focus of intense interest from a range of business sectors, among them: providers of Internet search, mobile services, media and entertainment, office and personal productivity tools.

This networking session will look at the current state of multimedia information retrieval under two headings:

new areas of research for future development

new systems for evaluating retrieval research, focusing on component-level, user-centred, continuous and cooperative evaluation.

We will demonstrate that the most successful innovations in multimedia retrieval are obtained when economic, social and regulatory aspects are taken into account along with purely technical considerations.

Coordinator: Michèle WILMET (JCP-CONNECT SAS, no department, France)

A very good topic - I look forward to it. It should be very engaging to discuss about the different evaluation criteria (although a purely technical quantitative benchmarking would also be very interesting)

We are interested in anthropocentric (human-centered) multimedia content description that can be used for multimedia retrieval, since most multimedia material is about humans.
