IPv6 GeoNetworking: addressing destinations in a geographic area

1102B, 27/09/2010 (14:00-15:30)

The GeoNet project aims to improve systems where information is transmitted intelligently to destinations located in specific geographic areas.

The GeoNet project combines Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) and GeoNetworking within a unified intelligent transportation systems communication architecture. With this combined architecture, it is possible to distribute geographic-bound information from the internet to all vehicles in a specific geographic area or from a vehicle to the internet via intermediate vehicles. This expands the capabilities offered to co-operative systems applications and to IPv6 itself. The objective of this session is to show how IPv6 GeoNetworking benefits co-operative systems and other sectors where information must be transmitted intelligently to destinations located in a geographic area, thereby opening new research fields that could be addressed by ICT.

Great topic.

Training issues to get people technically capable with IPv6 should not be forgotten
