Middleware services for context prediction and proactive adaptation

1102, 29/09/2010 (11:00-12:30)

Predictive context and proactive adaptation services offer software developers a range of challenges and opportunities.

Europe is making massive investments in next-generation intelligent services, computing systems and the future internet. But today’s systems have a major drawback: they are reactive by design, using current context to make decisions. By the time a decision is made, it is based on outdated context. The challenge is to predict future context and act ahead. This session will present state-of-the-art middleware services which discover, predict and supply relevant context to any application, device or service. It will examine the opportunities predictive context and proactive adaptation services offer. Participants will also be invited to challenge experts on their experience in developing context-aware systems and applications.

This seems interesting. But are contexts always short-lived?

In response to Alexandru, context isn't always short-lived. It depends. For example, user food preferences stay on for a reasonably long time. Context is multiaspect and multidimensional.
