Ambient assisted living (AAL) refers to ICT solutions that will help individuals to improve their quality of life, stay healthier and live independently for longer.
After presenting an overall picture of ambient assisted living, this session will discuss the rationale for a common service platform for AAL, the benefits for value chains, and the resources required for converging on technologies and application interfaces. It will also discuss opportunities for creating an Open Source initiative for the development of the envisioned service platform as well as a consensus-building forum for specifying application interfaces. At a more technical level, the session will discuss the possibilities for ontology-driven approaches to facilitate interoperability and content sharing between AAL services.
