Empowering EU-Latin America ICT Collaboration

T 004, 28/09/2010 (11:00-12:30)

Latin American countries are among the most powerful emerging markets, as this networking session will demonstrate.

The ICT programme currently has four projects running to promote ICT research collaboration. These are PRO-IDEAL, PRO-IDEAL PLUS, FORESTA and FIRST. This joint session, organised by the four cluster projects and with the participation of EU and Latin American ICT stakeholders, will showcase the practical results of participating in ICT projects. In addition, it will present the future outlook for ICT R&D collaboration and empower co-operation between Europe and Latin America by means of proactive networking.

It is extremely important to take this opportunity to enhance the cooperation between Europe and Latin America, particularly in the field of ICT where different initiatives are active in order to build sustainable links and liaisons between European and Latin American researchers. This is the case for instance of the creation of the Latin American Technology Platforms on Future Internet (www.latin-american-technology-platforms.eu) included in this joint networking session

As a matter of priority, Europe should reinforce its relationship with Latin America. The two regions have common cultural interests and are economically

compatible. The Latin American markets are currently expanding very strongly. Europe should support this expansion and help making it sustainable. Long-term

partnerships should be developed in science, education, training, research, marketing and sales. The EU has taken many steps in the right direction through

the EU-LAC Summits and the Science & Technology Agreements. EMF suggests additional steps in a recent position paper: http://tiny.cc/kp5xn.

In addition to the projects organizing this session, there are other more specialized projects, dealign with cooperation on a certain number of research areas. Among them, the SALA3D is a project under the Networked Media objective challenge 1, and deals with cooperation between EU and Colombia and Uruguay.

I would like to bring this project as one particular example of implementing research cooperation EU-LatinAmerica in specific fields of the technology

To reinforce the collaboration between Europe and Latin America is crucial - not only because of the research power that these states represent, but also for their economic power as emerging markets. In addition to the networking session, a "brokerage event" will be organised by EULARINET together with all ICT cluster projects on 30 SEPTEMBER at the Goethe-Institut Brussels. ICT2010 participants are invited to join the event. Participation is free but registration is necessary at: http://www.conacyt.gob.mx/uemexcyt2/w-eu-la2010.html

The rapid pace of ICT development has significant implications for social and economic development in emerging economies, which are making available new and expanded ranges of knowledge-based goods and services, as well as opportunities for other markets.

I would like to recommend this networking session as it shows how the European Union (EU) and Latin America (LA) are getting engage in technology through increased ICT research efforts. Projects such as PRO-IDEAL, PRO-IDEAL PLUS, FORESTA and FIRST, not only provide guidance and support for better understand the 7th Framework Program, related ICT research projects and partner search in Latin America, but also how to strengthen and extend cooperation in areas of mutual interest that facilitate LA interaction with the EU research area, as well as the ICT Policy Dialogue.

These actions provide the bases for future activities and research cooperation fostering overall capacity-building in developing policies, standards and procedures that promote scientific excellence and enhance ICT research.

The programme will show practical tools like the ICT Wiki and Project Angels coaching course. Local persons trained to help potential project partners, will receive their first diploma and tell their experience. Join the networking session and become part of the EU-LAC ICT community.

Great initiativem, thanks.

We've been working since 2003 in deep bilateral cooperation Switzerland-Brasil with governmental bodies and civil society. Our research & training institute for e-inclusion could see how fertile is the brasilian ecosystem of programmes for socio-digital inclusion and ICT development. We wish to take part in new multilateral projects to share our tools, develop new strategies and empower consortiums on the field of e-inclusion and ethics on ICt projects.

This meeting will be a good opportunity to enhance effective cooperation among ICT R&D stakeholders from Latin America and Europe. I will attend with the coordinator of the Liaison Office ARG-EU (ABEST II) and the Argentinean ICT NCP, who is the local coordinator of the PRO-IDEAL project. Our main goal is to promote the Argentinean capacities in ICT, in order to foster participation of Argentinean Scientists in FP7 consortia building.

YubiTech is a highly innovative SME dealing with research, development and implementation of Mobile Extension to the legacy Client-Server service systems. By using an innovative technology of Object Based Virtualization (OBV) and an easy to use tool of linking PC Client UI into the Mobile Extension users of Mobile Phone can manage and control their information systems (ERP, GIS, CRM, HomeGrown apps etc.). YubiTech technology can be used for the Controlling front end of any future system. ICT2010 attendees are welcome to call me on alshani@netvision.net.il for further information and common projects
