A better understanding is needed of the economic impact of ICT usage on growth, productivity performance and competitiveness.
While the digital economy is high on the political agenda of all advanced economies, its definition, understanding and measurement are still under development. This raises the question of what is the economic impact of ICT production and its use in our economies. Until now, this question has not been satisfactorily answered. However, one research team has taken up the challenge and, with the support of international academia and global organisations, it will establish a conceptual and methodological framework ultimately to model the digital economy. The team’s initial findings will be debated in order to prioritise any research questions arising, and information will be shared among other researchers trying to assess the economic impact of ICT in our societies.
