INCONET-GCC: An open networking platform supporting policy dialogue and the future S&T between Gulf Cooperation Countries and Europe

1102C, 27/09/2010 (14:00-15:30)

The INCONET-GCC project is an international co-operation network joining six Gulf countries in the pursuit of science and technology collaboration.

In INCONET-GCC, a project funded under FP7, the six-member Gulf co-operation countries (CGC) of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, and EU Member States will establish an international co-operation network to promote bi-regional partnerships in science and technology. The aim is to develop and support GCC-EU dialogue by bringing together policy-makers and stakeholders from both regions. It will also promote joint actions between the GCC and the EU to help to create synergies among their various co-operation programmes in science and technology, and foster the participation of the GCC in FP7. This session will outline the project aims and the roadmap to achieve its objectives.

Extending the science and technology cooperation between Europe and the Gulf Cooperation Countries offers mutual benefits. I look forward to fruitful discussions on how to make it happen.

We are interested because Gulf countries are progressively migrating to sustainable development programmes, through ICT, and Switzerland, which has no natural resources, has developped expertise on this topic.

QUESTIONS :

1. Is sustainable development and ethics on ICT included on your consortium and project ?

2. Are you willing to include this topic into your networking session ?
