Future Internet of Services - the new NESSI research and membership opportunities

T 013, 27/09/2010 (14:00-15:30)

The Networked European Software and Services Initiative (NESSI) is developing new opportunities for co-operation.

The internet of services is a vision of the internet of the future where organisations and individuals can find software as services on the internet, combine them, and easily adapt them to their specific context. This session will focus on existing and upcoming results, opportunities for future research and new opportunities for members. It is targeted at both existing members of NESSI and those interested in joining. An interactive part will also include audience contributions organised through a call prior to the conference. NESSI currently has 420 members, over 120 of whom contribute through NESSI strategic projects, representing a research investment of €60 million.

Broadcasting media internet: A strategy for the exploitation of the interleaved spectrum by the creation of new infrastructures (local IP wireless backbones in UHF) serving several innovative European sectors.

Comm 2007/700 presents the European strategy concerning UHF spectrum. However several inaccuracies and errors are contained in it like (page 3): the locally unused spectrum (interleaved) is introduced as a “new product” due to DSO, even more as “important” complement to the digital dividend, or it is considered as identical to the term “white space spectrum” introduced recently in USA by the White Space Coalition

• The interleaved spectrum (channels) is the result, of any National Coverage Implementation and not a result of the DSO neither “important” complement to the spectrum dividend. It is the opposite

• The term “white space spectrum” is not identical to the European term “Interleaved TV channels” neither the European DSO is (not at all) identical to the American DSO

Our strategy targeting to new innovative infrastructures avoids the irreversible loss, for the Europe ,of such a spectrum that will result if full duplex cognitive devices will be adopted (White Space Coalition's CUS approach)
