ECRN: EUROPEAN CIVIL REGISTRY NETWORK

This is a technology or research stand, located in Zone R5 - Digital Society. Stand number: R5-09

The ECRN or European Civil Registry Network deals with the safe and certified transmission of civil act certificates.

ECRN invites visitors to their stand to experience how an expatriate can retrieve a birth or marriage certificate from their home country without waiting months for it to arrive. Two ECRN ‘registrars’ will help them to make a trial request. The ECRN web application uses built-in digital signatures, interoperability functions and secure internet protocols to send the request and to deliver an electronic version of the certificate. In this exhibit, ECRN will provide in-depth information on its services and their advantages for EU citizens. With over 11 million Europeans living and working abroad, the need for this basic public service is self-evident. Today, ordering and receiving a certificate can take three to five months. The ECRN solution brings this down to a similar number of days.
