ICT 2010

Game development and innovation in Europe

T 007, 27/09/2010 (14:00-15:30)

Computer games are the most demanding mass application for computer hardware and networks, and are therefore a good indication of innovation.

This session will discuss the innovative power of computer game development. Organised by the European Games Developer Federation (EGDF), which represents some 600 game developers, it will examine the potential of online games, including business models and the possible impact on server technology. It will also focus on how the game industry is building innovative and piracy-proof business models which could flow into other media such as music, film and television. In addition, the mobile firm SIG will present a strategic analysis and discussion. Mobile games are undergoing a renaissance in which Europe should be participating properly.

The challenges described in the priorities documents are very interesting. I was wondering whether a general/common/unified framework for game development is of the network interest. This may increase the standardization within games development. At any rate, I am planning to attend this session.

Softkinetic invites all participants to experience the gesture recognition middleware for games at the Belgian pavilion booth B01. We are interested in EGDF’s vision on innovative user interfaces, and hope to hear more about that in this networking session.
