AEOLUS: Distributed Control of Large Scale Offshore Wind Farms
This is a technology or research stand, located in Zone R3 - Green ICT. Stand number: R3-09
AEOLUS is the ‘distributed control of large-scale offshore wind farms’ project which aims to make better use of wind power.
Wind energy can help Europe deal with the ever-increasing demands for energy but its full potential has still not been realised. Inspired by an industrial complex of large-scale offshore wind farms, the Aeolus research project will develop models that enable real-time predictions of air flows and incorporate measurements from a set of sensor devices. The resulting model and control principles will be used to increase the energy quality of wind farms and to reduce the fatigue loads on their wind turbines. The usefulness of the techniques will be validated in a case study and by experiments using a small-scale wind farm.
