CD-MEDICS: Coeliac Disease Management Monitoring and Diagnosis using Biosensors and an Integrated Chip System
This is a technology or research stand, located in Zone R5 - Digital Society. Stand number: R5-16
CD-MEDICS is the ‘coeliac disease management monitoring diagnosis using biosensors and integrated chip systems’ project.
Coeliac disease (CD) is the most common food-induced digestive disease in humans. Patients display a permanent intolerance toward the gluten proteins in wheat. The aim of the CD-MEDICS project is to obtain an instrument that will be a low-cost, non-invasive and intelligent diagnosis system for CD. It will also be available at all points of care, such as a doctor’s surgery, which will bring benefits to patients and healthcare professionals. The applications of the proposed integrated microsystem and its individual modules for coeliac disease diagnosis, monitoring and management are multiple. Using genetic analysis, it can indicate an individual’s genetic predisposition to CD and, by identifying certain antibodies, whether there is any gluten in their diet.
