Three EU-funded projects are focusing on providing new technologies to increase the value of multimedia news content.
News and media are emerging as a dominant information source for internet applications. Although characterised by their massive multimedia content, this huge digital archive is eventually lost, since it is completely unstructured and has a low level of reusability. This exhibit presents three related projects: PAPYRUS, ‘cultural and historical digital libraries dynamically mined from news archives’; SYNC3 ‘synergetic content creation and communication’; and CASAM ‘computer-aided semantic annotation of multimedia’. They all offer new solutions for processing captured news content, creating associations between different events in the news and the blogosphere, and making all these available to other business users, through cross-discipline access techniques.
