PlayMancer, the European serious gaming 3D environment project, is investigating the potential benefit of games in the healthcare sector.
PlayMancer is helping individuals who suffer with eating disorders, such as binge eating, or those who suffer from chronic pain, to alleviate the negative effects of their disorders and to cope better with their regular therapy. This exhibit will present two PlayMancer computer games: the mental health game which has emotion recognition from facial gestures, bio-signals and speech; and the pain rehabilitation game that tracks body capture and bio-signals. Visitors can play the mental health PC game by wearing the special equipment provided on the stand. The game will compute their affective state and update the game state accordingly. Players will see their emotional responses while playing, and get an explanation of how this actually helps patients to get better.
