RAS@KUL: Surgical Robotics at KULeuven, a seed for the future.

RAS@KUL is the robot-assisted surgery research group at the K.U.Leuven (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven) in Belgium.

RAS is a research group in the Mechanical Engineering Department at K.U.Leuven. It has two main areas of expertise: robot design, development, control and micromechanical issues, and biomechanical input. The group works in close collaboration with the University Hospital Leuven and the Leuven Medical Technology Centre. Several research projects in surgical robotics are currently active within the RAS group. This exhibit will present recent advances in the Vesalius robot project, which is developing a robot for laparoscopic surgery; the FP7 SCATh (smart catheterization) project, which aims to improve the safety of interventional surgery; and the STREAM (scaled teleoperation for robust enhanced microsurgery) project on robotic microsurgery.
