There are 19 million small-to-medium sized businesses in Europe. These are the businesses that create the majority of all European jobs. Their directors have many responsibilities and must be up-to-date with all aspects of their market. To develop their businesses, they need to engage in training courses, but there are very few people who can afford to take weeks away from work. To meet their training needs without needing them to leave the workplace, SME managers have a new option: to following an Internet-based training course. Read more
Film and television archives represent an invaluable resource for Europe's broadcasters, publishers and film makers. However, the the high cost and lengthy processing time required to restore archive assets to meet viewers' expectations has not matched the explosion in digital broadcasting across all media platforms. The IST funded BRAVA project aims at improving the speed and efficiency of film restoration and thus enabling the widest possible access to valuable archive material. The series of European Conferences on Integrated Optics (ECIO) was started in London in 1981. ECIO is now one of the most important and internationally conferences in the field of guided-wave and integrated optics in Europe. The 11th ECIO was held April 2-4, 2003 in Prague, for the first time outside the traditional "Western Europe". It attracted more than 200 participants including from USA, Japan and Canada. The IST 5th Framework Programme was widely represented, including invited presentations on Photonic crystals (PCIC, PICCO projects), Quantum dot materials and lasers (BIGBAND project), organic electro-optic materials (NAIS project). FP6 Networks of Excellence in the area of nanoscale and nanophonic components were also discussed. Read more

The Electronic Proposals Submission System (EPSS) for INFSO call 2002-1 has gone live. EPSS is a browser-independent web-based application enabling RTD proposals to be constructed and submitted electronically before being transferred to the Evaluation Service system.
