If you intend to prepare a proposal for any of the above objectives (ICT 15 - Big data and Open Data Innovation and take-up; ICT 17 - Cracking the language barrier; or ICT 22 Multimodal and Natural computer interaction (action a), the EC offers a facility to allow a proposer to check on the appropriateness of their proposed action, and the eligibility of the proposal consortium (see disclaimer below). You are invited to send us, by e-mail, a brief description of your intended proposal. You will receive our feedback on the relevance of your ideas within a few working days. On 18 March, the European Parliament's Industry, Research and Energy Committee (ITRE) voted on the Telecoms Single Market Regulation. On hearing the result of the vote, Vice President of the Commission Neelie Kroes said: "This vote is great news and I would like to thank the rapporteur Pilar del Castillo and all the MEPs involved for all their hard work and cooperative spirit. Digital tools and telecoms networks enable productivity and performance in every area of our lives. And now we are one step closer. This is about ensuring a dynamic, healthy, competitive telecoms sector, fit to face the future. It's about arming every European business with the tools and networks they need to innovate and grow. Community networks, combining low-cost hardware and open source software, enable a community to enjoy access to the internet independent of commercial providers. EU-funded research has taken a ‘glocal’ partnership approach to providing better access to wireless internet for community stakeholders and the resulting technology is now being commercialised by a project partner.
