Robot companions integrated with intelligent environments can facilitate independent living of the elderly at home. Using the robotic home assistant Care-O-bot 3, the EU-funded ACCOMPANY project develops new solutions for providing services in a motivating and socially acceptable manner. Read more
The Community of Practice for better self- and co-regulation gathered this Monday 24 November for its third plenary meeting at the premises of the European Economic and Social Committee. The meeting was chaired by Robert Madelin, Director General of DG CONNECT of the European Commission. Read more
Many scientists point out that the goal of social sciences is not simply to understand how people behave in large groups, but to understand what motivates individuals to behave the way they do. Could this fundamental insight be transformed in a step forward towards the solution of important societal challenges like traffic congestion or the sustainability a fully electrified transportation system? Among others, those are the questions that DATASIM project tried to address. Read more
In May 2014, FET launched a consultation to identify promising and potentially game-changing directions for future research in any technological domain. Nearly 500 contributions have been received, suggesting new topics, or further refining previously identified topics. Regarding the formulation of new FET proactive calls, we are gradually converging on a range of topics for which FET may provide funding under its Proactive scheme. Read more
With 85 delegates from 29 African and European countries involved in vivid panel discussions, networking sessions and demonstrations the "e-Infrastructures for Africa: Gateways to the Future" conference held in Brussels on 29 October 2014 has been considered a big success in the context of EU-Africa international cooperation. Earlier this year the African Union made e-infrastructures one of its top priorities. Read more
