This report explores innovative initiatives in Europe and synergy possibilities with European Union Innovation Programmes and Regional Development Funds to support seniors by innovative solutions enabled by ICT. It provides an overview of the on-going projects, innovative EU initiatives, key policy documents and new funding programmes for the new financial period 2014-2020. The aim is to inspire discussions and debates among the private and public stakeholders to initiate co-operation, innovative partnerships, possible synergies and cross-using EU R&DI programmes to face the challenges and turn demographic ageing into opportunities. With the Work Programme 2014-2015 on research infrastructures the European Commission is supporting the development and deployment of e-infrastructures to make every researcher digital. While providing digital skills and digital tools it enables an open European space for online research, the Digital European Research Area. Topic 1 of the e-infrastructures call of the aforementioned Work Programme focused in managing, preserving and computing with big research data. The Commission is exploring how policy and funding needs of computing and data e-infrastructures are changing and what relevant priorities should be developed in the WP2016-2017. For that reason, a consultation took place on 17 June 2014 in Brussels. The workshop consisted of three sessions: 1. e-Science needs in terms of data and computing e-infrastructures 2. Data and computing e-infrastructure services 3. Economical opportunities stemming from data and computing e-infrastructures Each panel was introduced by relevant stakeholders in the domain. Read more

To coincide with Graphene Week 2014, the European Commission announces that the Graphene Flagship, one of the largest-ever European research initiatives, is doubling in size. 66 new partners are being invited to join the consortium following the results of a €9 million competitive call. Read more

CONNECT is an entrepreneurship programme financed by the European Commission and targeted at European new entrepreneurs starting up businesses with the potential to grow internationally. Selected entrepreneurs will embark on an exchange scheme in Brazil, where they will have the opportunity to work alongside and learn from an experienced host entrepreneur. The stay will be partly financed by the European Commission. Applications are open until 15 July, with limited places available. Read more
