New job profiles and educational needs emerge with AAL technological developments
It is a well-known fact that the ageing of the European population has serious consequences on several sectors (health sector, education, ICT etc.). Thanks to the various research and technological developments, mainly as the result of European funded projects (FP7 and the AAL Joint Programme), the service palette offered to this segment of society is now very rich. Unfortunately the European education system has not kept up to this development and therefore the vocational training needs in relation to those new solutions are not fulfilled adequately yet which would be necessary in order to design, develop, operate and manage these systems and solutions.
The Leonardo da Vinci Programme co-funded CompAAL project has filled this gap and identified five AAL-related job profiles as the most important ones to be targeted. The profiles which have been elaborated by following the e-CF methodology clarify what competencies the five identified professionals shall possess. The five identified job roles cover the whole AAL technology development and maintenance chain starting from AAL system architect and AAL solution and system developer, through to AAL maintenance specialist, AAL community manager and AAL consultant.
In order to facilitate the integration of these job profiles into the vocational education programmes of VET providers training guides have been produced to help these organisations (as well as future employers and employees) to get an overview of the state of art of the AAL sector; of the European Reference Frameworks that were used; and of the interrelation between technical and soft skills.
While the CompAAL project is close to completion the work in this field continues in follow-up projects such as the engAGEnt project which will create and validate a harmonised European curriculum based on the principles of ECVET which will qualify professionals for the function of AAL Consultant. It is intended that such follow-up projects will be launched for all identified profiles.
