Advancing Manufacturing - Advancing Europe' - Report of the Task Force on Advanced Manufacturing for Clean Production

Report/Study: 04/04/2014 - 19:11
Following the launch of the Industrial Policy Communication update (October 2012), a clear and ambitious target was set: Reversing the declining role of Europe's industry from its current level of around 16 percent of GDP to as much as 20 percent by 2020. To achieve this target the European Commission has engaged in a partnership with the Member States and industry in order to considerably step up efforts to boost the market uptake of European advanced manufacturing technologies and give Europe a competitive lead in the new industrial revolution.

A dedicated Task Force for Advanced Manufacturing Technologies for Clean Production has been established. The Task Force is led by DG ENTR, with participation of DG RTD, JRC, DG EAC, DG CNECT, DG COMP, DG ENER, DG EMPL, DG REGIO, DG TRADE and the Secretariat-General. The mission of the Task Force is to co-ordinate Union efforts to increase the competitiveness of the EU's manufacturing industry by fostering the development and speeding up the uptake of advanced manufacturing technologies by European industry.

During 2013, the Task Force consulted with EU Member States, industry and other stakeholders: 2 public hearings were held, a series of workshops were organised and a dedicated online consultation was open from March to June 2013.

As a result of the work carried out during 2013, the Task Force issues a report in the form of a staff working document. The report aims at providing information about existing measures relevant for advanced manufacturing that have already been implemented in recent months and upcoming actions previously endorsed by the Commission to support advanced manufacturing technologies.
