Michael Tierney leads Intel's European patent operations in Munich, where he is responsible for strategic patent portfolio development in wireless technologies. He also represents Intel before the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) Committee on Intellectual Property Rights. Mr. Tierney has extensive experience in innovation harvesting, patent drafting and prosecution, patent licensing and assertions, and managing multijurisdictional patent litigation.
Prior to his legal career, Mr. Tierney served as a NASA engineer for 10 years. At NASA he worked in R&D for optical remote sensing systems, laser remote sensing systems, and spacecraft on-board navigation software. Other industry experience includes developing algorithms and software for digital signal processing, phased antenna array calibration, antenna beamforming, and radio direction finding. He has a Law Degree from the George Mason University School of Law and a Masters Degree in Applied Physics from Johns Hopkins University. Undergraduate degrees include a BS in Electrical Engineering and a BA in International Studies, both from George Mason University.
