On the 13 July 2015, a delegation of the European Commission led by Roberto Viola, DG Connect's deputy Director-General, met with representatives from Italian government, public and private  and sectorial stakeholders to discuss on the Digital Single Market initiative put forward by the EU Commission in May.

The discussion covered several topics of high relevance for the Italian digital economy: Broadband strategy, eCommerce, digital skills, eGovernment, audiovisual policies and copyright.

The event gave the possibility to the Italian representatives to widely present their recent achievements as well as new strategies and initiatives in the different sectors to take advantage of the latest digital technologies.

The active participation of the public in the discussion was encouraged with a view to have a large and genuine contact with the Italian stakeholders around the potentials and the barriers of the achievement of a flourishing digital economy
