Micro/Nano-electronics take us to the world in miniature, where big things are facilitated by the smallest and smartest of electronic components and systems that interact with each other.

When talking about technologies in the micro level, we mean millimetres, whereas at the nano level we enter the realm of nanometers - one millionth of a millimeter or 1/60.000th the width of a human hair.

Why are these tiny things then so important?

We have come to depend more and more on electronic components and systems; these technologies and the solutions that they provide are the very basis of our everyday devices, such as mobile phones and computers.

This is just the beginning

Within this field we are working at the frontiers of hardware and software. Micro/Nano-electronics as part of the Key Enabling Technologies (KETs) - the drivers of the development of digital goods - can open important new possibilities for Europe's growth and industrial competitiveness, create new jobs and usher in new products and services.

40 business cards received in two days. This is more than the average! My stay at SEMICON Taiwan was a great opportunity to develop relations with Taiwanese stakeholders – and explain to them that it is worth investing in Europe.
