Micro- and nanoelectronic components and systems are not only essential to digital products and services; they also underpin innovation and competitiveness of all major economic sectors. In order for Europe to stay at the forefront in the design and manufacturing of these technologies and to provide benefits across the economy, the European Commission adopted  on May 23rd 2013 a 'European strategy for micro- and nanoelectronics components and systems'.

The Strategy aims at strengthening Europe's attractiveness to private investment in the field and at reversing the declining EU share in the production of electronic components.
