  • 28/05/2014 - The European Commission has adopted the Communication in response to the second successful European Citizens' Initiative, One of Us. See press release.
  • 10/04/2014 - A public hearing on the second initiative submitted to the Commission, One of us, has taken place at the European Parliament. For more information, please consult a dedicated page on the European Parliament website .
  • 09/04/2014 - The organisers of the One of us initiative have met with the Commissioner responsible for Research, Innovation and Science, Ms Geoghegan-Quinn, and the Deputy Director-General responsible for Development and Cooperation, Mr. Cornaro. See press release.

Water and sanitation are a human right! Water is a public good, not a commodity

  • 10/07/2014 - The Commission services organize a stakeholder meeting on benchmarking of water quality and services on the 9th of September 2014 in Brussels. Invitations to this meeting have been sent out to relevant stakeholders. This stakeholder dialogue is one of the actions announced in the Communication in response to this initiative and aims to increase transparency on performance of water and sanitation services.   • 23/06/2014 - A public consultation on the Drinking Water Directive has been launched as part of the follow up actions announced in the Communication in response to the Right2Water initiative. See press release.
  • 02/06/2014 - In the context of the follow-up given to the "Right2Water" Citizen's Initiative, the Commission has identified 'water and sanitation' as a key priority area for the post-2015 development framework. The priority areas and corresponding target topics are set out in the Commission Communication "A Decent life for all : from vision to collective action" – COM(2014) 335, which will contribute to the discussions in the upcoming UN General Assembly ahead of the negotiations leading up to the Summit in 2015. Within the 'water and sanitation' priority area, the aim is to achieve universal access to safe drinking water, to sanitation and to hygiene but also to improve integrated water resource management, water efficiency and quality and to reduce pollution.
