The interpreters of the European Commission welcome you to Open Day 2014 this Saturday
This Saturday, 17th of May, the European Commission opens its doors to the public in Brussels to celebrate Europe Day. For Open Day 2014, the interpreters of the European Commission welcome you to the Schuman Room, right at the heart of the Berlaymont building. Here you can try your hand at simultaneous interpreting in a real conference setting!
Also lined up for you, we have a whole day of lively debates and interesting talks about the Commission's work - from employment, cultural programmes and multilingualism to major health issues, consumer rights, and ERASMUS +. We will also have presentations from the Greek and Italian Presidencies of the Council of the Union. Closer to home, some of our interpreters will discuss the ins and outs of a conference interpreter's life here in Brussels - from how to become an interpreter, the art of interpretation itself, to the modern technical equipment used every day. Have a look at the programme here [124 KB] .
Our speakers will present in a wide number of the EU's 24 official languages, but you can rely on us to provide professional interpretation into French, Dutch, German and English. Come and listen, or better yet, participate and let your voice be heard.
The European Commission interpreters allow the officials of the European institutions and our partners and visitors to understand one another in meetings and conferences. Thanks to our highly skilled and experienced interpreters, the Member States of the EU can send their best experts to Brussels and not just their best linguists! Even if the participating delegates do not speak the same language, they are still able to work effectively and efficiently for the citizens of Europe. Come and seize your chance to meet our interpreters. Every one of them is ready and willing to answer your questions.
