No Island is an Island
The European Commission conference "No Island is an Island", held on 18 October 2013, the opening day of the Language Show Live at Olympia Central, had the ambition to highlight the multiple challenges caused by, and solutions for, poor foreign language learning in the UK.
Androulla Vassiliou, European Commissioner for Education and Culture, opens the conference.
The conference "No Island is an Island - European perspectives on language learning in Britain" brought together 150 representatives from the UK government, the European Commission, UK business and teaching, a number of representatives of European countries ready to share their experience, representatives of language projects in the UK, a French multilingual theatre group, and members of the press for a series of presentations, analyses and in-depth discussions of the issues. All sessions were recorded on video in the original, and links to the sessions can be found below the links to the programme for the conference and the speaker bios.
