Help to Universities
DG Interpretation does not itself offer training courses but it cooperates very closely with universities to ensure professionally focused training of the highest quality.
DG Interpretation cooperates with Higher Education Institutions [320 KB] in Member States and acceding and candidate countries).
Universities can ask for help from DG Interpretation in the form of experienced interpreter trainers; such trainers have a good knowledge of training methods as well as years of experience as conference interpreters. This support is managed flexibly and can be tailored to individual needs. 72 universities benefited from this possibility in 2012 [23 KB] .
We can also provide subsidies to projects which bring an additional European dimension to a course, e.g. teaching unusual language combinations, Post-graduate Conference Interpreting courses, cross-border cooperation projects – 7 universities benefited from such subsidies in 2013-2014. Work programme 2014 [123 KB]
The purpose of visits to DG Interpretation is to familiarise student interpreters with the workings of the Institutions served by DG Interpretation and, in particular, the work of interpreters in meetings. The students sit in on meetings and interpret in dummy booths with their trainers, thereby acquiring a first taste of their future working lives. The total sum of visitors in 2012 was 24 visits, 48 groups and 539 visitors.
