
Frédéric Lerais joined BEPA in September 2005. He is seconded to the Commission from the French Labour Ministry. He deals with issues related to labour markets, employment policies and social protection.
In France, he was responsible for a team of economists which, to help the cabinet of the Labour Minister, carries out forecasts of employment and unemployment, evaluations of employment policies (alleviation of social security contributions, 35 hours...); empirical studies on the labour market (productivity, ageing in particular). Prior to joining the labour Ministry, he worked in one of the main French independent institute for economic studies and forecasting (Observatoire français des conjonctures économiques, OFCE). He worked on a macro econometric model of the world economy (MIMOSA). He dealt in particular with the macro-economic issues related to coordination of the economic policies in Europe and to the transition of Eastern countries and Russia.
Frédéric obtained his Economist-Statistician degree at the National School of the Statistics and the Economic Administration (ENSAE) in 1990 after studies of quantitative economics at the University Paris I (Pantheon-Sorbonne).
